GNER London Kings Cross to York in July 2007
What a god awful service this is. Scrumming like an experienced Rugby player I managed to bag a standing room only position beside the toilet on the 7pm service out of Kings Cross. It took all of 5 minutes to start asking myself the question why am I not travelling in first class? Surrounded by annoying kids, old ladies with a strange smell and drunk geordies was not a great way to end a very busy week in London. To top it all the ticket cost my company £89.50p one way!. It would have been cheaper to drive and frankly more comfortable.
I still don’t understand why the train company has to pay the government to run this service instead of spending money on more services and carriages. It seems like a hidden tax to me.
