Caesars Pizzeria and Restorante, 27-29 Goodramgate, York, North Yorkshire
On a trip into York, we decided to try Caesars Pizzeria and Restorante on Goodramgate. It is quite a large place facing the southern side of York Minster which is currently clad in scaffolding. We were seated in a small cosy part of the restaurant and immediately served with fresh crusty breads. The plastic menu made us a little apprehensive as did the paper napkins, which regular readers will know are a particular dislike of ours.
Anyway we ordered our drinks, sparking and still water were the order of the day following the previous nights intake of chardonnay. Dusty ordered the sticky ribs and chicken supreme; I went for the spaghetti Bolognese starter and honey roasted duckling for main.
Looking around like we do, the place was nicely laid out and did have that Mediterranean style. We did feel though that a deep clean was probably due as there were some signs of dirt in places. The toilet was clean but for those who are unsteady on their feet or in a wheelchair, it is completely inaccessible up some steep winding stairs.
The chef working in the open plan kitchen for all to see, was very cute indeed. We both had to stop ourselves from staring too much, but we do like a bit of eye candy while waiting to eat. Deep dark brown eyes….
Back to the food. The starters arrived and were very pleasant indeed. Dusty’s sticky ribs were coated in a sweet and sour sauce and my Bolognese was just right. The pasta was very well cooked. Our mains followed and Dusty was very impressed with his Chicken Supreme. My duckling was beautiful and well cooked with a great crispy skin. Both mains were served with a nice selection of seasonal vegetables.
Settling our bill because we didn’t have time to try the deserts (which all looked home cooked) we took one final glance at the chef as we made our way out.
